Hungary’s capital city has long been acclaimed as one of Europe’s most beautiful, with its parliament building frequently highlighted on advertisements for Danube river cruises. Come and travel through one of the Roman empire’s northern provinces and experience the spas, bridges, markets and historical areas of “Buda” and “Pest,” two cities which merged in 1873 to form the popular tourist destination we know today. We’ll look at geography, history, cuisine, landmarks, culture, and a few outings to popular nearby destinations.
Let Mariya Fogarasi pique your curiosity and entice you to come along on her tour of Budapest, a city where she spent six wonderful years exploring, mastering the language, and sampling delicious Hungarian specialties (accompanied, preferably, by traditional violin music).
Mariya Fogarasi verbrachte insgesamt 29 Jahre zu vier unterschiedlichen Lebensabschnitten in Deutschland. In Detroit geboren, kam sie zum ersten Mal mit Familie in 1958 nach Deutschland (Bergisch-Gladbach) und zog kurz danach für 8 Jahre nach Köln Lindenthal. Nach dem Studium (Universität Michigan, 1977, BA German Literature – inkl. ein Jahr in Freiburg/Breisgau – & Thunderbird School of Global Management, Glendale, Arizona, MIM 1978) zog sie wieder in die BRD und arbeitete für Kühne & Nagel, Ford Deutschland, Ford of Europe und schließlich für das “State of North Carolina European Office” als Trade Representative in Düsseldorf. In 1989 heiratete sie ihren Mann, der für das US Handelsministerium im Außendienst tätig war und zog nach Toronto, Sofia, Budapest, Berlin (zweimal) und Seoul. Immer wieder fand sie eine neue Herausförderung, entweder als Freiwillige oder als Berufstätige. In Juli 2016 zog sie von Berlin mit Ehemann John Fogarasi aus Familiengründen zurück nach Dearborn. Seit 2 Jahren hält sie Vorträge über unterschiedliche Orte wo sie gelebt hat und stellt am 26. Juni die herrliche Hauptstadt Budapest vor. Mariya hat 3 Kinder: Christina (29, Ithaca, NY), Michael (27, Boston) und Caroline (21, Ann Arbor).

Here are some tips from Danielle to help us have a successful Zoom event:
1. If you’ve not previously used Zoom, we recommend you download and create an account before the event and become comfortable with some of the features such as – how to mute/unmute your microphone, review your background or consider using a virtual background, while Fancy Friday attire is not required, this might be the time to polish off a nice sweater or blouse, do the best you can to tame your COVID hair and find that great shade of lipstick that you used to wear before face masks.
Pour yourself a nice beverage and settle in front of your computer, tablet or smart phone for our event. Remember, if you have to step away or there’s lots of background noise, please be considerate and mute your line and/or stop video. You may also want to learn how to switch between gallery and speaker view as we will be asking you to switch modes during our presentation.
2. For our conversation to remain pleasant for everyone – please refrain from gossip about others and allow only those who wish to share their feelings or experiences to do so themselves; no politics or slamming our governor, president, etc. However, you may share how the policies have impacted your life and family personally. Be considerate and allow others to share but also maintain the confidences of others….
