Topic: Fairy Tales – Hstory and Origin
Karen VanderKloot DiChiera is founder and director of Michigan Opera Theatre’s Department of Community Programs and Learning at the Opera House for Michigan Opera Theatre. A Composer, and Educator, she oversees and has created, commissioned and stage directed many of the department’s touring performances that travel throughout Michigan, other states and Canada. Ms. DiChiera is a workshop facilitator/lecturer for all ages and people, including those with disabilities. Ms. DiChiera also teaches “Opera and Humanities”, for Central Michigan University’s graduate program in Humanities. A published composer with Fredrick Harris Music Co., she has written articles for arts, music and education journals. She is co-producer/co-host of MOT’s cable television series, “Time Out for Opera” and is founder and director of MOT’s summer education program for all ages – Learning at The Opera House – which received the Success Award in Education from Opera America.
The Department of Community Programs has garnered many honors including Recognition from the United Nations during the International Year for the Disabled and a Merit Award from the American Lung Association for the touring musical, THE NIGHT HARRY STOPPED SMOKING. The television series TIME OUT FOR OPERA has received numerous Midwest and national awards in Cable Broadcasting.
