About the Author:
I lived with my family as a German expatriate in Metro Detroit from 2008 to 2012. During this time I wrote monthly newsletter to our family and friends back home – these were the original Love Letters.
Today, I am working as a Cross Cultural Specialist, Lawyer and Coach in my Business Coaching for Legal Professionals (www.coachingforlegals.com) in Salzburg, Austria.
Book Description:
“Detroit, Michigan – Love Letters from an Alien” is a story about an ordinary German expatriate family. The adventure starts, when they leave their northern German suburb to move to Detroit and live there for one year. But Detroit isn´t just like any other American city: it is the time of the automotive industry crisis and the collapse of the city.
Twelve monthly letters describe the fear and anxiety of the German family and the array of feelings that go along with leaving their home and arriving in a new country, of connecting with neighbors, adjusting to a strange environment.
It is the story of any expatriate in the world: to feel like an alien and to be a legal alien. And it is the story of the love of a lifetime.
